Please join us in congratulating SWA Robotics teams who participated in the FLL Robotics Singapore on Friday and Saturday, 4 and 5 March 2016 at the Canadian International School (Lakeside Campus), Singapore. FIRST LEGO League, (FLL) is an international competition organised by FIRST. Each year, FIRST LEGO League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. As part of a wider initiative to promote STEM subjects among students at Sinarmas World Academy, students have been learning to programme LEGO Mindstorm robots in preparation for the First LEGO League robotics competitions. The robotics club, guided by Physics teacher and run as a collaboration project between Mathematics, encourages students to apply their programming and problem solving skills to real world situations, with this year’ competition themed around the hot topic of the environment and waste disposal.
Our SWA robotics teams ‘Higgs Bosons Robotics’ and ‘Baryon Hadron Robotics’ battled it out with 200 teams from various top Singaporean (such as Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Institution, Canadian International School) and overseas schools across four elements of the competition, Core Values, robot design, project presentation and the Trash Trek robot game. The teams were commended for their professionalism and enthusiasm, and the judges were particularly impressed with how much they had achieved in the ten weeks leading up to the competition. The ‘Baryon Hadron Robotics’ were awarded 5 Gold Medals for “Strategy and Innovation Award” and Team “Higgs Boson Robotics” were nominated for the ‘Research Project’ award for their diverse resource to formulate an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of problem they have identified. The teams will continue to run in the weekend to allow students to continue to refine their programming skills in preparation for the next tournament, FLL Philippines Island Tournament, June 2016.
SWA ‘Baryon Hadron Robotics” team includes: Michael Hartono, Chih Han Yeh (Josh), Denzel Tjokroardi and Axell Stanilaus. SWA ‘Higgs Boson Robotics’ includes: Jocelyn Dung, Tristan Loa, Alisa Haoken and Ayden Haoken.
Our SWA Robotics Team brought home 5 Gold Medals and received Strategy and Innovation Award in the Robot Category. This award recognises a team that use solid engineering practices and a well developed strategy to design and build an innovative, high performance robot.
Please join in congratulating SWA Robotics Teams on their excellent achievement! They should be proud of completing the challenges of this event, demonstrating exceptional enthusiasm and showing a strong performance.
